Following the Spring Budget in March there has been much media coverage of the proposed DWP announcements to reduce the welfare bill, through its green paper – ‘Pathways to Work:Reforming Benefits and Support to Get Britain Working’
The proposed changes are currently out for consultation, which can be completed by anyone. The government states that it is particularly keen to hear views from a wide group of people, in particular disabled people and people with health conditions and disability organisations. The consultation is open until 30th June 30 2025, you can access it HERE
We are aware that there are many that are concerned about how the changes may affect their income, particularly those recipients of PIP (Personal Independence Payments). The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has confirmed there will be “no immediate changes” to PIP and that the proposed new measures, will apply to new claims and award reviews from 2026, subject to parliamentary approval. New rules may come into force from November next year.
It has also been confirmed that if someone is getting PIP now and might be affected by the proposed changes to eligibility it will only apply when their award is due for review. You can find your renewal date on your original award letter.
